GMHS: A Caring Place

GMHS: A Caring Place

Makayla Alicea, Editorial Board

You may not know it, but there are many students all around you, in your class, in the lunch room, in the halls, who have lost a loved one and are silently grieving. The Caring Place was designed for that purpose and is a safe haven for grieving families to get counseling completely free of charge. “It is a great place for children and families to grieve over the loss of a loved one,” says Mrs. Hertle. She has known about the caring place for 10 years and she too has known a loss of a loved one.

Because the services provided by The Caring Place are free, they rely a lot on donations. So, on National Children Grief Awareness Day, Nov. 19, our school will be wearing blue and donating to help support The Caring Place. We will have a photo booth, which is a $1.00 donation, blue spray paint for your hair, which is another $1.00 donation, and there will be a raffle for a sweet treat basket, tickets will be $2.00 for one ticket, or $5.00 for three tickets. In addition, as we did last year, we will have our memory wall for all of our students and faculty to write, as many times as needed, the name of a loved one they lost, free of charge.

The Caring Place matches any amount of donations and last year we raised over $600 for this cause! So, let’s come together as one and raise awareness for our students who are currently grieving.
