The General McLane swimming and diving team had trained long and hard for the 2016 district meet that was held at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio on March 4 and 5.

They got there not long after noon and had time to relax before they had to suit up and get in the water for warm ups. Some kids explored the giant building, some talked to fellow swimmers from other schools, and some just sat and prepped themselves for their upcoming races. As the meet began kids and coaches filled the pool deck by cheering on their swimmers, or simply warming up in the warm up pool.

The first event for General McLane was the girls 200 Medley Relay which consisted of Cece Koral, Ali Stawicki, Michelle Fisher, and Rachel Kear. The girls were the second heat out of three and got first in their heat. While each girl dropped time and dropping ten seconds all together from their best time, they finished seventh.

The boys 200 Medley Relay which is made up of Ben Loutzenhiser, Logan Flynn, Nick Bradford, and Brenan Burch dropped time as well and finished second with a time of 1:41.18.  They also broke the school record and earned their spot in the Pennsylvania State Championship meet, being seeded twelfth over all.

Bradford and Loutzenhiser will also be attending states to compete in the boys 200 Yard Individual Medley being seeded second with a 2:01.87 (Bradford) and third (Loutzenhiser) with a time of 2:04.67. Bradford also broke the school record for that event, which he set last year at the state meet. Bradford’s other individual event that he will be competing in will be the boys 500 Freestyle with a seed time of 5:00.23.

The last event that the General McLane state qualifiers will be competing in is the boy 400 Freestyle Relay. The relay consists of Loutzenhiser, Garrett Vaughn, Bradford, and Brenan Burch. The boys earned a time of 3:22.62 at the district meet and are seeded nineteenth overall for the state meet along with being .04 seconds off of beating the school record of 3:22.58.

The boys plan on beating it after they are done training all this week and into next week.  The state meet will be held at Bucknell University on March 18 and 19. We wish them the best for a strong showing at states!
