GM Playoff Football Preview: vs Conneaut

It’s playoff time, baby!

After a season which included both joy and heartbreak, GM will roll into their first playoff test Friday, as they face the Conneaut Eagles, in a rematch of Week six. Both teams come in with a record of 5-4, but with completely different ends to their respective seasons. A win in this game would grant the Lancers a ticket to the second round, but to do so, they must first get through the Eagles once again. Here is a preview for both teams:

Conneaut: Its been an up and down season for the Eagles, but a three game win streak will give them massive amounts of confidence heading into Friday’s game. In fact, the last loss for Conneaut came against GM, when they fell 35-21. The Eagle offense has been soaring lately, putting up an average of 40.6 points per game after the loss to the Lancers (19.5 ppg average before GM game). Four of the five Eagle wins have come in the region, and with a victory on Friday, Conneaut would win their fourth straight, and propel themselves into the second round.

General McLane: This is a Lancer team that could easily be 7-2. However, two consecutive heartbreaking losses have slightly changed that. GM dropped their final game of the regular season last Friday, a 34-28 overtime defeat to McDowell. If there is any consolation from the game, it was that quarterback Ethan Laird played the game of his life in the loss, rushing for 187 yards on 28 carries, and three touchdowns. The big game put Laird over the 1000 yards rushing on the season, with 20 TD’s to compliment that stat. To win this game, GM must put up another great running attack against the Eagle defense, as they did last matchup, with 309 total rush yards. The Lancer defense will also be a major factor, and even though they surrendered 34 points to McDowell last week, they showed much promise, recording two turnovers and sacks, and putting pressure on a college caliber QB Levi Becker all game.

Keys for a Lancer Victory:

1: Ethan, The Spotlight Is On You: 20 rushing touchdowns. 1100 rushing yards. It’s a simple solution: If Laird gets going, the offense will be too much to handle. The running game will need to be present all night, and Laird is the gear that keeps this rushing machine firing on all cylinders.Any

2: Avenge the Pain: The last two games for GM have been heartbreaking. There is no other way to describe it. Any anger that the Lancers may have must be released in this game. GM has proven that they are capable of hanging with the best of teams, and this is a game where they can showcase that on the big stage.

3: No Time Like the Present: This is the playoffs: if you lose, tomorrow becomes next season. No need for the Lancers to hold back, thinking about next week’s possible game. Attack early, attack often, and never let up.
