Newspaper Staff Attends EUP Journalism Day

Akayla Lewin and Patrick Angelo proudly display their awards from Edinboro University’s Northwestern Pennsylvania’s Journalism Day.

Two Lancer Ledger staff reporters were recognized at Edinboro University’s Journalism Day for their excellence in print writing.  Senior Akayla Lewin placed fifth in the Sports Writing Category for her article, “Unified Track Team Takes on State Meet.”  Sophomore Patrick Angelo placed second in the Print Feature Writing Category for his article, “To Cheat or Not to Cheat.” He also won $50.  

At the event, the students attended a workshop led by Kate Giammarise, a reporter from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and Jaime Warburton, an Assistant Professor at Ithaca College, on “Becoming a Better Writer.  They also listened to Keynote Speakers D.X. Ferris and Jason Pettigrew, music journalists from the “Alternative Press,” give key note addresses
