Top 10 Rap Albums of 2020

Kylie Roney, Reporter

2020 has been a rough year for all of us. We’ve endured a global pandemic, the country broke out in riots last summer, and worst of all, Pop Smoke died. Let’s just say 2020 was a complete mess, but one thing good that was brought to us last year was the music. The industry went crazy and dropped some of the best albums of all time.

Billboard charts made it a point to rank the best albums of 2020 starting off with #10, Legends Never Die, by Juice Wrld. This album definitely deserved to be in front of a lot of these other albums because of how great it was. It was his first album after his passing and had many great bangers that everyone enjoyed.

Coming in #9 was Industry Games, by Chika. This album was good, definitely didn’t need to be in the top 10 but it was decent.

Next, #8 which is The Goat, by Polo G. This album was all around amazing and definitely lived up to the hype. This album features the song “Martin and Gina” which was one of the most played songs last year and was all around a great song going along with the album.

#7 is Savage Mode II, by 21 Savage and Metro Boomin. This album was really good, definitely one of 21 Savage’s best albums but I’m not completely sure if it should have been in the top 10.

Coming in at #6 is Alfredo, by Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist. This album was definitely not my fortay, and I didn’t enjoy it because it was trash but I could see how other people with that taste might like it. Either way that album did not deserve to be in the top 10.

Next in #5 is A Written Testimony, by Jay Electronica. This album was well written and produced but it just wasn’t for me. In other words it was bad and shouldn’t have been in the top 10 and personally I don’t understand how that is considered rap.

Next up is #4, Eternal Etake, By Lil Uzi Vert. This album was absolutely fire and deserved all the credit it got because everything on the album was well produced and everyone was waiting for so long for it, later finding out it was all worth the wait.

Coming in #3 is Run The Jewels, by RTJ4. This album definitely deserved to be in the top 10, despite it not being my taste because you can tell how much work was put into it and it should be ranked at least #10. I personally wouldn’t say #3.

Coming in #2 is Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon, by Pop Smoke. The amount of words I have for this album are limitless. This album was the best thing that came out of 2020 hands down. It seems that as soon as rappers die, their producers drop the best music by them and it’s sad that they aren’t alive to appreciate their work being released to the public. This album was amazing and I personally believe it should have been ranked #1 last year.

Last but most certainly not least is My Turn, by Lil baby. This album was all around amazing and Lil baby did a great job with it. Everything about this album just made sense and I personally think it was great that Lil Baby switched up his style and went for more of an emotional direction which people, including myself, absolutely loved.

Some albums I believe that deserved to be on this list are Pegasus, by Trippie Redd, Circles, by Mac Miller, and artist 2.0. These albums were appealing to me because they had some emotion and love story in each of them. They portray a deeper level than they usually do and I respect that a lot.
